In my Fruit series (2005-2007) I explore the organic world. These works are a modern expression of Dutch Vanitas paintings, which represented rotting fruit as a symbol of mortality. In their day, these paintings were meant to make people question their existence and ultimately make them lead a better life with a focus on the afterlife.
These photograms are meant to do the same for the medium of photography. The photogram is something unique to analog photography, and truly takes advantage of the darkroom which is something that many photographers fear will cease to exist in the not so distant future. The fruit displayed are in a constant state of decomposition, the bubbles that are so key to the images will ultimately burst.
